As businesses face new challenges, is it time to question the status quo? Are we ready to rethink our hiring strategies and invest in the future of our workforce? And perhaps the bigger question, does the key to long term success lie in our approach to DEI?

Given the constant influence of technology and economic factors on the job market, future proofing talent acquisition is vital for long term success.

Diversity, Equality& Inclusion (DE&I)

Embracing diversity, equity,and inclusion (DE&I) in recruitment is not just a passing trend, it has the power to create a lasting impact. It fuels innovation, drives better decision making, and creates a workplace where everyone can thrive in a safe and inclusive environment.

According to a 2023 DE&I Data Survey conducted by PwC, two of the top three reasons employees hesitate to declare their diversity characteristics are fear of apathy and concerns about potential reprisal or discrimination.

As leaders in talent acquisition and recruitment, we must be committed to changing this statistic. A true commitment to DE&I not only brings meaningful benefits to the organisation but also delivers visible value to stakeholders at all levels. It enhances the candidate experience, promoting innovation, improved engagement, better decision making, and stronger talent attraction and retention.Ultimately, embracing DE&I can offer significant reputation benefits for the organisation as well.

The recruitment process is the first impression of your organisations DE&I commitments; therefore, it is vital to ensure your processes are fit for purpose and most importantly, diverse by default.

As we know, with incoming legislative and regulatory changes as well as the increase in technology, getting your hiring right has never been more important.

The Value of Skills Based Interviewing

With technological advances, legislative changes to day 1 rights and a change in market conditions, now is the best time to look at your recruitment methods and decide how it is best placed to serve the needs of the organisation.

Ask yourself a couple of questions:

-             Can your organisation afford to overlook the potential that lies beyond the scope of traditional recruitment techniques? Or;

-             Does your organisation give your candidates the opportunity to be themselves?

If the answer to either of those questions is‘ no’, then it could be a great time to look at your assessment approach and make sure you are assessing candidates holistically so you can see their full potential. It may be time to take afresh approach, one that values people for their skills, potential, and unique perspectives. Traditional methods often overlook great candidates simply because they don’t fit a set mould. By focusing on skills based assessments and ensuring an inclusive hiring process, businesses can tap into a wider, more diverse talent pool while making fairer and more effective hiring decisions.

The combination of economic challenges now mean employers are having to navigate increased staff costs, alongside uncertain markets. TA and Recruitment leaders are already feeling the impact of reducing budgets and processes coming under further scrutiny, so looking at where you can streamline your processes without missing the best talent is key. We help our customers navigate challenges and take the guess work out of recruitment and talent assessment.

The way we hire today will shape the success of our organisations tomorrow. By refining recruitment processes, embracing DE&I, and looking beyond CVs to see the full potential of each candidate, businesses can build stronger, more adaptable teams.

The workforce is changing, and those who take the steps now to modernise their hiring will be the ones best equipped for the future. To read more about accessible hiring, read our latest guide here.
